Trisha Asuncion

As someone who is passionate about mental health, I applaud you for seeking therapy and advocating for your well-being. It is not easy to reach out and takes courage and bravery to do so. It is empowering to remember that you are in charge of your own life, even in the unexpected moments.

I prefer to use a collaborative and person-centered approach that emphasizes your role in the therapeutic relationship. However, I understand that therapy is not one-size fits all, and I will work with you to tailor to your goals and needs. I know how it feels to be misunderstood and invalidated, and that is why I strive to create a safe, warm environment that will allow you to share openly without the fear of being judged.

With a degree in Psychology from the University of Toronto (2019) and a certificate in Mental Health Intervention from Seneca Polytechnic (2020), I hold the appropriate tools and skills needed to help you on your journey to mental well-being.

Reach out for a free 15 minute consultation to see if we could be a good fit. I am available virtually across Ontario, and in-person in Markham.

I am under the supervision of Grace Kuipers, MDiv, RP, RMFT-S, CCFT, CPT.

Embarking on my path as a  therapist, I have witnessed the profound impact of empathy, understanding, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions. My specialized focus includes Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Trauma, OCD, Couple’s Therapy, and Insomnia, with a commitment to providing a safe, supportive and collaborative therapeutic relationship.

Throughout my experience working as a therapist, I’ve cultivated expertise in navigating the intricate connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Grounded in the principles of Psychodynamic, DBT, EFT and CBT modalities, my approach empowers clients to unravel the roots of their challenges, identify maladaptive thought patterns, and cultivate practical strategies for positive change.

I am dedicated to inclusivity and cultural sensitivity, actively welcoming individuals from BIPOC and LGBTQAI2S+ communities. This commitment shapes my therapeutic landscape, fostering a safe and affirming space for clients to explore, grow, and overcome obstacles. Together, we can embark on a journey towards emotional well-being, stronger relationships, and improved sleep quality, embracing diversity and individual strengths.

First, I want to acknowledge that you are here! The journey to finding the right therapist for you can be time consuming and emotional; I know, I’ve been through it myself. I want to recognize the hard work you are doing right now taking this important step to finding peace and clarity in life. Whatever you may be struggling with, I am here to help you gain a deeper understanding and develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself. My approach is person-centered, collaborative and rooted in empathy. This means we will work together to identify ways to live alongside or move past the challenges you face. I’m passionate about providing a safe and non-judgmental space where you can show up and be yourself.

Previously, I worked at Toronto Western Hospital and the Canadian Mental Health Association, gaining experience supporting individuals with a range of concerns. These are experiences of anxiety, depression, grief, feeling stuck, low self-esteem, ADHD, chronic pain and illness, substance use concerns, concurrent disorders, and more. I draw from a diverse range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to ensure a tailored approach for each client. This includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and trauma-informed fundamentals.

Currently, I am a Master’s level student working under clinical supervision. I’m passionate about providing a safe and non-judgmental space where you can show up and be yourself. Curse, laugh, cry, whatever you need.  You don’t have to navigate this alone. Please feel free to reach out for a free 20 minute consultation to determine if I am a good match for your needs.
