Therapy is such a leap of faith. Good for you for considering it for yourself or for your teen. I hope I can offer you some support in navigating this complex mental health system and any related confusion or anxieties you may have. If you are interested in setting up a free 20-30 minute phone consultation, please send an email to therapy@kalilabadali.com

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from U of T/OISE. I provide individual brief and long term therapy as well as family therapy on a case-by-case basis. I started working in mental health because of my personal and professional passion for supporting neurodivergent individuals (Autism, ADHD, Learning Disability, Gifted etc.). I have worked with teens and young adults with a variety of challenges such as social isolation/anxiety, procrastination, emotion regulation difficulties, suicidal thoughts/intent, and relationship challenges. I have a strong value for supporting individuals in the arts (musicians, actors, comedians, painters etc) and LGBTQ2S+ identifying people, many of whom are neurodivergent themselves and can’t always afford therapy.

Many people don’t fit themselves under these categories. I welcome you here even if you don’t. Let’s have a conversation to see what you would like from therapy. I use an eclectic approach to psychotherapy, which means I strive to tailor my approach to your needs by combining elements of psychotherapeutic modalities such as Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Relational, Solution-Focused and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT). The most important thing to know about my approach is that I believe in meeting you where you are at and collaborating with you on your goals, even if you don’t really know what your goals are yet!

I have In-Person availability on Tuesdays between 10:15am-5pm. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are online between 11:30-6:15pm (latest appointment time at the moment).

I know how hard it can be to open up about the more vulnerable parts of your life. Often, there are good reasons those parts have been kept protected. My role is to create a space where you can feel safe enough to be seen, heard, and understood, at your own pace.

My approach is grounded in the belief that many of the patterns we struggle with today once served a purpose. Rather than asking “what’s wrong with you”, we gently explore “what happened to you” and how your experiences have shaped the ways you relate to yourself and others. In our sessions, I will be using a culturally responsive and trauma-informed approach that explores the following:

  • Identifying and prioritizing your goals
  • Understanding the impact of past experiences and relationships
  • Exploring current patterns and behaviours
  • Working through difficult emotions and experiences
  • Focusing on small actionable shifts to build momentum for change
  • Integrating resilient coping skills and a self-compassionate lens

My hopes are to attune to your therapeutic needs and work with you on your journey towards growth and self-discovery. If you think we would be a good fit, please email me at sumaira@thetherapyspace.co to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. I look forward to meeting you!

Does it seem like you’re stuck in the same place you’ve always been while the people around you are busy following their dreams? Maybe you know that you’re capable of more and that you can work hard when given the chance, but self-doubt and worry stop you from even trying. Perhaps it’s been this way for so long, you think this is it for you.

I know that with the right support, change is possible. I think that therapy should be both supportive and challenging. I am empathetic and understanding, but I don’t let my clients sell themselves short. My job isn’t to hold your hand while you suffer, it’s to push you to heal and grow so that you can learn to solve your own problems.

I’m a registered psychotherapist (RP), and I love to work with clients who struggle with low self-esteem, anger, anxiety, and burnout. I am also a Certified First Responder Counselor (CFRC) and I am trained to work with first responders in the treatment of occupational stress injuries and post traumatic stress. I tend to work best with clients who are ready for change but can’t get out of their own way to make it happen.

My therapeutic style is warm, non-judgmental, and direct. I am professional, but I’ll be honest and let you know that I am not polished. I speak plainly, I curse, and I’ll say what I mean and backtrack as necessary. I also laugh freely, and I don’t get offended easily, so I welcome you to be yourself with me. If it sounds like we might work well together, feel free to get in touch.
