Hello, there! My name is Adrian (he/him/his)!
I recently joined Psychotherapy In The City as part of the Affordable Therapy team. I have over 10 years of counselling and peer support experience, as well as 14 years of practice and training in applied mindfulness and compassion cultivation. I have a wealth of experience working within the private mental healthcare sector, as well as working with grassroots and community-based organizations within the GTA and Peel regions. Over the years I have worked with the Mental Health Support Network at St. Joseph’s Hospital, New Dawn Counselling, Supporting Our Youth, and the 519 Community Centre, to name a few!
To forge a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients, I utilize a client-centred and relational approach, which is grounded in an anti-oppressive framework and a trauma-informed perspective. I use an integrative style drawing upon evidence-based practices to design and implement a unique treatment plan in collaboration with each individual client to suit their needs.
I am sex and body positive, and I offer both queer-affirming, and gender-affirming care. To date, I have worked with clients struggling with emotional dysregulation, mood disorders, including bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, disordered eating, grief, disability issues, and interpersonal issues. Additionally, I have worked with many 2SLGBTTQIA+ community members, and I specialize in working with transgender, non-binary, gender fluid, intersex, and two-spirit identified folks to help them navigate issues around sexuality and gender orientation. Previously I have worked with HIV+ clients, clients that engage in sex work, as well as clients that have struggled with sex addiction, and I aim to offer a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients can discuss these sensitive issues. I am very passionate about offering affordable psychotherapy and working with vulnerable communities that have underserved mental healthcare needs.
Currently, I am completing my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy at the University of Toronto – OISE, while concurrently completing a post-graduate degree in Addiction and Mental Health at Confederation College. Previously, I completed an H.BSc. in Psychology at the University of Toronto, as well as additional post-graduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Applied Mindfulness Meditation, and Trauma-Informed Mindfulness. Since 2014, I have been developing a Third Wave psychosocial intervention for bipolar disorder called Mindfulness-Based Awareness and Transformation Therapy (MBATT).
I am a registered member (MBPsS) with the British Psychological Society (BPS) on the psychologist track, and a student member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Currently I am completing the requirements to register with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
I would like to acknowledge that I am a white settler practicing psychotherapy on traditional territory of the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Huron-Wendat, the Métis, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
