Healing is the most transcendent part of the therapy process. On your journey my role as your therapist is to help you cope better with stress and difficulties by providing guidance and acceptance. As my background is in art therapy I aim to creatively assist you with:
- addiction recovery
- life transitions
- grief, loss, and break-ups
- relationship difficulties
- constructive coping skills
- mindfulness as a part of self-care
- intellectual/developmental disability
While I often use art therapy directives, I also like to use other creative approaches in sessions. I enjoy guiding hesitant artists in trying art for their expression and insight, but only if they wish. There is no need to be afraid of art making!
Last year I worked as an essential worker for the first six months of the pandemic, and I would be very enthusiastic about working with other essential workers at this time.
For the past several years I have worked in developmental services, mainly supporting adults with a range of intellectual disabilities. I have also served these individuals in therapy sessions that often focused on improving self-expression. I am also passionate about advocating for issues such as: mental health awareness, anti-racism, and gender equality. As a social service worker I am familiar with many other services and supports available to you throughout the city and province, and I would help you to access these as you see fit. I believe that building stronger connections to one’s community is an important aspect of personal mental health.
In my approach I will work with you to find new ways of personal discovery, communicating and asserting yourself that will help lead you to feel healed, whole, and excited about the road ahead.
Please contact me for a complementary, half hour initial assessment phone call to determine if my services would be a good fit for you and your needs.
