Hello 🙂 I’m Alicia (uh-LEE-see-uh) Bunyan-Sampson, MSW, RSW, a registered social worker and trauma focused psychotherapist in Ontario.Â
I’m in many ways a reluctant therapist. Most of what brings people to therapy is not personal brokenness. It is the understandable cost of surviving oppressive systems, and the traditional therapeutic process has too often reproduced that harm, treating people as disordered for adapting to conditions that were never okay. My practice works against that. I work from an anti-oppressive, trauma informed, anti-mononormative framework, and my aim is not to fix you. It is to build a space where you can find yourself, on your own terms, with your survival honored rather than pathologized.
What I work with most: complex PTSD, relational, digital and gender based violence, family and sibling trauma, sexual shame, racial and intergenerational trauma including anti Black racism, grief (including the kinds that aren’t socially recognized), suicidality and self harm, and chronic self doubt.
I work with people in every relationship configuration, monogamous, non-monogamous, and queer platonic. My framework simply rejects mononormativity, the assumption that one way of loving is the default and everything else is a deviation.
Affordability. Care here runs on mutual aid. The Nest Fund is a redistribution pool built into my practice: standard rate sessions and my public work subsidize reduced cost care. My sliding scale is always adjustable and reflects the Fund’s capacity at any given moment. Right now that range is $50 to $120, at times spots can be free, and if money is the barrier, talk to me. Individual sessions are otherwise $155, relational (two partner) sessions $185, multi-partner work and relational coaching priced case by case.
Outside sessions I’m a Sims 4 builder, cozy gamer, clay person, and devoted rewatcher of things I’ve already seen too many times.
