I think that if something is bothering you, it is worth taking a look at.

You might feel overwhelmed, or trapped in a pattern that you no longer want to be in. Maybe you’re doubting yourself and your abilities, dwelling on your mistakes, or feeling embarrassed about things that you’ve said or done. Perhaps you fixate on the future and worry about what could go wrong.

We often spend so much time and effort trying to keep it together for the people around us that we don’t actually show up for them. We can only push through until a point, and then we all need support. I know asking for help is not always easy.

If you do decide to talk to a therapist, it’s important that you find one that is right for you. The therapist-client working relationship is the most important aspect of any treatment program, and so I will tell you about myself to help you determine whether I am someone you would want to work with.

In addition to having completed all of the required coursework for Yorkville University’s Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program, I have over 15 years of work experience in the mining industry and a bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology. I am a former competitive athlete, and I have spent over a year taking calls for a distress line and a suicide prevention line.

As a psychotherapy intern, I work with individuals, and I practice under the supervision of a fully licensed practitioner. I like to really get to know my clients. I give people the space to tell me whatever it is that they need to have heard, and then I help them work through their problems. I have a personal style that is warm, accepting, non-judgmental, and direct. I believe in people and their ability to change. I think that helping is a careful balance between supporting people through the hard stuff and then challenging them to grow. I am holistic in the sense that I think our physical and emotional health are inextricably connected.

My aim is to provide my clients with mental health therapy that makes sense to them, and that aligns with their goals, values, and lifestyles. I follow an evidence-based approach to treatment, which means I am informed by established therapies that have been tested in clinical trials. But I also recognize that therapy is an art, and a personal process that looks different for everyone. I work with clients to develop a treatment program that will work for them. I will ask for feedback, assess how things are going, and change up what’s not working.

If it sounds like we might be the right fit, or if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
