Alyssa is a Canadian Clinical Counsellor (CCC) licensed with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), as well as a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). She completed her Masters in Clinical Counselling Psychology at Adler University in beautiful Vancouver.
Alyssa’s previous counselling experience involves working with a client range from twelve to eighty-five including individuals and couples from all different walks of life. Issues of focus included clients dealing with both acute and complex trauma, depression, anxiety, self-harm, self-esteem, work and relationship stressors, or issues in communication and boundaries. In addition, Alyssa has experience working with young children through equestrian therapy, which has sparked her passion in helping others through whichever means of therapy best suits the client.
Alyssa generally works with a client-centered approach, applying therapeutic orientations such as Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as incorporating Mindfulness-Based techniques where applicable. Alyssa’s primary goal when working with clients is to establish a warm, trusting, and empathetic relationship in order to form a strong foundation for therapy to take place. Alyssa’s core values in therapy include ensuring the client always feels heard, validated and supported throughout the session. Alyssa keeps in mind that every person is unique, with their own subjective experiences and ensures therapy from a trauma-informed perspective; keeping clients safe is a top priority.
Alyssa’s interest includes working with survivors of sexual violence, and developmental trauma. She understands therapy can be difficult but is the first step in a life-long journey of healing and self-discovery. Alyssa work collaboratively with her clients to explore their emotional experiences in an atmosphere where the client leads the way.
