Hello! My name is Emily Collins (she/her), and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (qualifying) currently completing my Masters in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I am honoured to be joining the team at Glowing Heart Psychotherapy, and I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and providing quality care to clients.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science with a major in Criminology from Lakehead University, and since then, have been working extensively in a helping profession, allowing me to develop empathy and compassion. These experiences have also taught me the importance of creating a safe space for clients to feel they are supported, unconditionally and without judgment. I recognize the courage it takes to be vulnerable, and I commend you for taking this first brave step. I will meet you where you are at, and together, we will work towards your goals using a variety of tools and interventions.
Having worked as a firefighter, where I was frequently exposed to high-stress situations and supported individuals who had experienced significant life events, I learned to appreciate the difference one person can have on another and how validating an individual’s experience can lead to healing. In addition, these experiences have ignited my passion for understanding and promoting effective self-care strategies, both for myself and my clients.
My therapeutic approach is uniquely tailored to the individual needs of a client. In session, I utilize a combination of both Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to address presenting issues, including but not limited to life transitions, anxiety, depression, stress management and the development of healthy coping skills for emotional regulation.
I am in the clinic all day on Fridays and Saturdays and look forward to meeting you and ultimately allowing you to feel seen, heard, and valued.
