I am a certified Canadian counsellor and professional member of the Canadian Psychotherapy and Counselling Association. I hold an M.Sc. from Acadia University and M.Ed. in both Educational Administration and Counselling Psychology from Memorial University. I worked in the education system for 25 years and I currently work as a school counsellor in addition to serving clients privately. I am a certified naturopath with the ANNC, a master level Reiki practitioner and I am skilled in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. I volunteered on the provincial sexual assault crisis line for 2 years, and I am constantly pursuing continuing education in evidence-based counselling modalities. Topics of interest include suicide intervention, grief counselling, behavioural interventions for developmental issues such as Autism, trauma informed counselling, restorative justice, and educational assessment.
My treatment plans are tailored to an individual’s specific needs however, my emphasize is on solution-focused, strengths-based modalities that are trauma informed. I offer proven strategies that aim to move clients through whatever issue they are facing in a structured way. On average clients feel ready to move forward without support or to greatly reduce the frequency of support after 3-4 focused sessions with me.
I offer in-person counselling to individuals residing near St. John’s, NL and to clients outside my local area I am happy to offer both telephone and video counselling. I have found telephone and video counselling to work as well as in-person counselling for most clients and most presenting issues.
Please call to arrange for a short free introductory online/phone consultation to determine if you feel comfortable with my approach.
