I share with you a Dr. Seuss quote: “I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I’ve bought a big bat. I’m all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!”
I share this quote because I think there is so much we can gather from this. That challenges are always going to come up despite how prepared, or ill prepared we might be! And in those times where we might not feel so prepared, lost even! Sometimes having someone walk beside you in that process can allow us to feel a bit more empowered to tackle that issue.
So I want to take a moment to appreciate your efforts in looking for a counsellor. Sometimes this process can be daunting and I want to commend your courage in seeking the things you need for a more grounded self.
A bit about me. I was born in Australia from an immigrant South East Asian family and now call Vancouver Island in Canada my home. I enjoy films, camping, biking and unpacking the philosophical meanings in the life we live today. My whole life I have been interested in working with people of all different backgrounds and belief systems, as I feel we have so much to learn from one another.
In my practice I work with individuals, couples, and groups. I help my clients navigate various issues such as personal finance, self-esteem building, assertiveness, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, identity struggles within immigrant families, burnout, trauma and addiction. The modalities I incorporate into my practice include Emotion-Focused Therapy, Strength-Based, Trauma Informed Practice, CBT, Solutions Focused, Rogerian therapy, Gestalt and Family Systems Therapy. Over the last 4 years, I have utilized my supporting skills in settings like crisis assistance organizations, non-profits empowering at-risk populations, healthcare settings, provincial government, and supportive recovery group homes.
People who have worked with me have described me as warm, welcoming, non-judgmental and up lifting. I look forward to seeing if we could be a suitable match for your therapeutic journey whatever that might look like.
