My name is Joanna, and I am glad you are exploring the possibility of being supported through whatever you’re struggling with. Life can be challenging, and I’m here to help alleviate your struggles. I am not afraid to sit with you in your inner world, even when it is heavy and overwhelming. I am kind, authentic, and witty; your needs are my focus.
As we collaborate to establish your goals and desires, we will delve into your thoughts, emotions, and experiences, seeking to uncover what may be holding you back from the life you envision. I will encourage you to strive for the best version of yourself, which can sometimes be a challenging endeavour. Getting to know yourself can be daunting, but I’m here to walk you through anything you’re ready to share with me, without judgment, bias, or conditions.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design University. I am currently completing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I have taught drawing and painting at a private art school for many years, and after the pandemic, I decided to return to my first passion—psychology. I am a mother of two, an immigrant, and married to a wonderful man from a different cultural background than my own. Therefore, I possess both the theoretical knowledge and years of lived experience to support you through your own life and challenges. I am passionate about counselling women experiencing life transitions (from being single through motherhood and beyond), intercultural couples, and individuals with a wide range of issues and symptoms.
My approach to counselling is eclectic, drawing on various therapeutic modalities to tailor therapy uniquely to your needs and goals. I utilize my knowledge of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Person-Centred approaches, Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Psychodynamic and Humanistic methods, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based therapy. I am committed to continuously expanding my counselling knowledge and exploring new modalities and certifications to support my clients to the best of my abilities.
When not wearing my therapist hat, I enjoy hiking with my family and friends, hot yoga, weightlifting, gardening, reading, and surfing while travelling with my loved ones.
I look forward to meeting you and walking alongside you through your journey.
I offer both in-person sessions (at the Mississauga location) and secure virtual sessions.
