Healing starts by clearly envisioning a different and better future. Connecting with a renewed sense of possibility sparks hope, optimism, and the courage to change.
My name is Katia Rheault (she/her) and I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with ACCT. I work on line, and in person in Duncan, BC.
The counselling support I offer is based on consent, collaboration and trust. You set your own goals and choose what you want to focus on, and I help you identify the most meaningful pathway towards change. Together, we explore alternatives, access insight, and build on your unique strengths to bring about your desired outcomes. Honouring each client’s autonomy and agency is at the centre of my work.
I work with Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, an evidence-based and trauma-informed approach that consistently creates positive outcomes with a variety of problems and mental-health challenges. SFBT strengthens inner resources, inspires optimism and hope, and does not require clients to revisit their most difficult past experiences, unless they want to. This creates choice and safety to engage in meaningful exploration.
When relevant, I use simple mindfulness and somatic grounding techniques. This helps clients connect to the present moment, support nervous-system regulation, and restores a felt-sense of safety.
I believe that mental health and wellbeing are greatly influenced by how individuals and groups impact one another. Just as we can cause harm by perpetuating systemic oppression, we can also choose to bring about change and healing to our families, workplaces and communities. I am aware of my privilege as a cis-gender heterosexual woman and as a member of a non-visible minority. I watch how my own experiences of privilege and oppression may emerge in my interactions with clients, so that our work is reparative, affirming and empowering.
