You have neglected your mind and body, where you feel numb and/or that your emotions are out of your control. You try and set boundaries but end up telling yourself “It’s easier if I am just more flexible/accepting/forgiving”. Your relationship with your significant other and/or parent is like a rollercoaster – amazing times followed by misery, filled with anxiety, fear and isolation. You are embarrassed to tell anyone about these experiences for fear of judgement or pity. You feel like you lost yourself or perhaps you never asked, “What do I really want?”.
You feel exhausted, alone, sad, anxious, but know deep down that you are a strong person. You have overcome many challenges, but at a high cost. It is time to regain hope and disallow your emotions from catching you by surprise. I tend to be direct and realistic, helping build on existing strengths and increase emotional capacity.
I use mindfulness and behavioural techniques, look for ways to reconnect you with your body, and teach distress tolerance and emotional regulation skills, as well as ways to better interact with others. I work with individuals who struggle to connect with themselves and others, experience strong emotions that at times feel out of control, and those who have experienced emotional abuse, including narcissistic abuse.
