Clients I work with are often experiencing recurring patterns of emotional hurt in their lives and may be unable to see their positive qualities, criticize themselves easily, or have trouble asserting themselves and speaking their mind. As well, I work with clients who struggle with flashbacks from childhood trauma or abuse which still affects their present-day life.
Therapy helps in promoting mental wellness and it’s important to understand that a diagnosis of mental illness is not the only reason to seek therapy. The need for clarity about feelings, thoughts, emotional management, feelings of sadness, guilt, or anxiety can all be greatly helped with psychotherapy.
As a mental health professional for the past two decades, I believe in a collaborative client-centered approach and provide a safe, comfortable, non-judgmental space for clients. I am best described as an integrative psychotherapist. I studied CBT as part of my Ph.D. thesis and combine Mindfulness based approaches; progressive relaxation exercises; humanistic approaches; and guided/self-guided visualizations; as needed.
As a recipient of the Fulbright Award for Counselling, I have international exposure to best practices in the field of mental health and have worked with children, youth, adults, and families. I provide both individual and group therapy for various types of distress including depression, grief, anxiety, family conflicts, career struggles, trauma, workplace stress, relationship concerns, and similar psychosocial issues.
I believe in continuously learning new strategies, approaches and theories and regularly participate in different workshops and trainings. I offer long-term therapy as well as brief therapy, according to the client’s needs. Besides English, I can speak and understand Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.
As a member of the American Psychological Association, The Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP), the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Clinical Practice and other National Associations of Psychologists, I try to keep myself updated with the latest developments in the field of Psychotherapy. I contribute to mental health care through social media and provide numerous webinars and programs.
At present, I respect the need and urgency for social distancing and currently provide Online therapy to clients anywhere in Ontario. I welcome you to get in touch with me to see how I can help you on your journey to mental wellness.
