Hi, I’m Sally Jieun Chung (she/her). I’m a Registered Psychotherapist with over 7 years of clinical experience and currently reside in Toronto, Ontario. I offer virtual therapy to BIPOC folks across Canada, specifically East Asian adults – those born here/are a child of immigrant parents or have immigrated to Canada.
I believe everyone has their own unique story and experiences that have shaped who they are and how they live out their day to day. Because life is unpredictable and out of our control, some parts of our story carry pieces of pain, loss, depression, anxiety and hopelessness (just to name a few), and some of these emotions may continue to impact us in our present day. When this happens, we may find ourselves feeling stuck or overwhelmed, not knowing why we feel the way we do. I believe therapy is not an avenue to “fix” your problems or make hard feelings go away. Instead, it’s a safe space where you and I can connect, human to human, so that you can be unfiltered with expressing your emotions/thoughts and feel fully heard and seen. It wouldn’t just end there; I’d hope to offer opportunities where you not only express, but discover and try new things which will ultimately support you in experiencing small but significant shifts. I firmly believe that change does not come at once, but in the small steps we take.
Alongside traditional therapy, I offer creative interventions that will facilitate and deepen the healing process. This includes metaphors, story-telling, poetry, breathing exercises, imagery and art-making to name a few. That’s why my practice is called Beyond Words Art Therapy, as I firmly believe in the power of creativity as words are not always enough to convey the breadth and depth of your experience.
If this sounds like an approach and therapy style you resonate with, reach out through an email or my website for a free consultation to chat more and ask me questions. I hope to hear from you!
