Hi, I’m Shamalla, a Registered Social Worker and the founder of In-Between Therapy. I provide virtual psychotherapy to adults across Ontario who are navigating religious or spiritual harm, religious trauma, faith transitions, deconstruction, or the impacts of high-control religious environments.
These experiences can affect much more than a person’s beliefs. They may also bring grief, anxiety, depression, loss of community, or uncertainty about identity and belonging. You may still hold religious or spiritual beliefs, feel unsure about what you believe, or no longer identify with religion at all. You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy.
My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and grounded in religious neutrality. This means I will not promote a particular religion, spirituality, or lack of belief. Instead, therapy offers a non-judgmental space to explore your experiences, understand how they continue to affect you, and move toward a life that feels more authentic and aligned with your own values.
I draw from trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive processing therapy and narrative therapy approaches. Above all, I want you to feel heard, respected, and in control of your therapeutic journey. Reduced cost and sliding scale sessions are available. Appointments are currently available virtually on Tuesdays 9-6pm and Saturdays 9-3 with some additional weekday evening availability depending on availability.
