My name is Tyler, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and trained art therapist living in downtown Toronto. I prioritize authenticity and believe in creating a safe and supportive environment for others to explore their experiences, emotions, and self-concept. I am attuned to somatic modalities and neurobiological research that support healing from trauma, depression, chronic pain, and anxiety. You can learn more about me on my website.
Somatic practices were an integral part of my art therapy training and are interwoven into my practice. Bottom-up approaches help connect us to the physiological sensations and responses of our body, which may be helpful for those of us experiencing chronic illness or pain. Body-oriented approaches may also be beneficial for individuals who consider themselves busy thinkers (e.g., ADHD) or who wonder why they’re not feeling better even though they’ve logically “figured out” all their problems.
The somatic grounding and mindfulness exercises that may be a feature of our work together are also tools you can carry forward into your day-to-day life to support managing stress and overall well-being. My therapeutic practice is also informed by aspects of humanistic, relational, and existential approaches, which I discuss in a bit more depth on my Q&A page. In addition to my therapy training, I am a climate-aware therapist and a member of the CPA (Climate Psychology Alliance).
