About…

Yael Shoham (she/her) is a Master of Social Work Intern Therapist providing services for our Affordable Therapy Program. Yael completed her first degree 9 years ago, and has been providing support and education to members of the queer community since then. She’s been inspired to complete her MSW, so that she can continue to support folks who are wanting to learn, grow and discover more about themselves. She brings a lovely foundation of education and lived experience, as well as bilingual abilities (english & hebrew), to her placement with Kaleidoscope Counselling Collective.

As a self-identified neurodivergent and queer person, with a previously debilitating disability, Yael is deeply passionate about destigmatization and self-acceptance. She believes that our society is filled with preconceived ideas, and that it’s crucial to unpack the disparity between societal expectations and our personal desires in order to find the right balance to navigate the world effectively. She advocates for using empathy and personalized approaches for each client, and believes that holistic methods that consider the individual, their past, and environment are essential for identifying and working towards therapeutic goals.

Yael has a special interest in working with 2SLGBTQIA+ challenges like coming out and identity exploration, as well as sex & intimacy, and relationships. She also wants to support folks who are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD and neuro-divergence, non-monogamy, and disabilities.

Yael is always learning and growing, personally and professionally. She has pursued extra training in trauma, interpersonal violence, cultural diversity, psychosocial pathology, social work ethics, etc.

Outside of her education and clinical work, Yael enjoys spending time with her loved ones and her senior pup.  Whether it be  playing games and having movie nights in, or spending time laughing with friends, a mix of cozy and outgoing keeps her recharged.

Yael will be mentored by her supervisor, Kristie Brassard MSW, and is happy to offer therapy sessions at a more affordable rate. Book a consultation or session today!
