“We are born in relationship, we are wounded in relationship, and we can be healed in relationship.” — Harville Hendrix.
Psychotherapy is a professional relationship between a care seeker (client) and caregiver (therapist). The primary focus of this relationship is to serve the client’s interests and well-being. I endeavour to create this healing relationship by providing C.A.R.E. The model involves C- Conversations/Compassion, A- Attunement /Attention, R- Respect, and E – Empathy.
A relationship requires ongoing, dyadic (reciprocal) experiences between them, be it a parent and child, between spouses, or between family members. Hence, my therapeutic approach aims to re-create these relationships in therapy so that healing occurs and one continues to live as a healed person. My role is to help my clients be their therapists and not make them dependent on me all their lives.
Some words that best describe my work with care-seekers are explore and empower, non-anxious presence, non-judgemental, perceptive, inclusive, and acceptance as one is.
I have been trained eclectically and draw my therapeutic skills from various theoretical models, to highlight a few: the psychodynamic approach, Family systems, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and more. My work with care seekers is both short-term and long-term. I offer therapy for Individuals, couples, and families.
Most of my work is around grief & loss, anxiety & depression, relational/self-esteem issues, work/career issues, traumatic life events, sexual/gender orientation concerns, & issues related to emotional, mental and spiritual health. Psychoeducation, life coaching and working with teenagers/young adults dealing with parental separation/divorce.
In addition to my academic and clinical qualifications are my fifteen years of rich Parish/Pastoral experience and my Indian/Goan cultural background. I also do self-care through Amrut Vella meditation, 5K walks, and cooking.
