Struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, panic attacks, grief & loss, life transitions or other life challenges? Take the first step towards healing through evidence-based strategies, and the deep work of core emotional processing. My therapeutic approach is person-centered, warm, compassionate, and uniquely understanding. I began a career in mental health after writing about my own struggles with an anxiety disorder and publishing the book Anxiety’s Inner Voice in 2010. During my career, I have been profoundly honoured to witness and help guide my clients to not only heal, but thrive and grow into their authentic selves.

Melissa Philpott

Hi! My name is Melissa (she/her), my work is guided by curiosity, connection and is rooted in values of authentic collaboration. My therapeutic foundations are rooted within relational, client-directed, strengths perspective, trauma-informed, feminist and structural frameworks. With a deep sense of compassion and respect, I seek to create a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space that facilitates self-awareness, healing and growth. Together, we can begin to tease apart the adaptive approaches to dealing with and moving through life you’ve grown accustomed to, and begin to untangle patterns that are serving you, and patterns you may be interested in moving beyond.

I use a range of different therapies and have training in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have additional training to support individuals with Disorder Eating/Eating Disorders, substance use/harm reduction, suicide intervention and sexual violence.

I strongly believe the two main predictors of success are rooted within the therapeutic rapport and the inherit wisdom and strength that clients bring into our sessions. Together we can work to create a safe space where you can develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, with the intention to grow, heal and transform.

Trauma, oppressive societal norms, shame, and so much more can make us forget the beauty of being human. Maybe childhood was rough, maybe you’ve been depressed since you can remember. For many reasons, we may have lost connection with ourselves and our connection to others. To me, therapy is about finding this connection. Regaining connection can take time, especially if we feel like we never had it.  It takes a leap of faith to even seek out therapy, and I commend you for taking that first step. I want to provide you with the compassionate space you need in order to do the deep, sometimes scary work, and shine light into the places that have been kept dark. When it comes to my approach, I use a blend of somatic (body-based) therapy, mindfulness, Internal Family Systems, Gestalt, and relational therapy. My approach focuses on how your patterns are showing up in the present moment, and how the past affects us in the here-and-now. My personal experience as a transgender person, going on a journey from shame to self-acceptance, has also influenced how I work with clients who are experiencing transformations of self. At the end of the day, what matters is that you feel accepted and trusting in your therapist, so I prioritize that above all.

If something about me resonates with you, take that leap and reach out. You can do this.
